Rosemary bath for a good immune system

How does a Rosemary Bath and what does it help against?

Rosemary is known and loved worldwide! This plant and spice has an ancient tradition for use in food and as a medicine. The use of rosemary as a medicinal herb dates back to the Middle Ages. Under Charlemagne, people started to think differently about this. Despite the cold winters in northern and central Europe, attempts were made to grow rosemary in these regions at the time. As long as it is well protected, this is not a problem. Cellar temperatures of 10°C are required for this. But what effect does it have? In this article, we will take a closer look at the effect a herbal bath with rosemary has on our body!

Origin and history of rosemary | Rosmarinus officinalis L.

Today, rosemary is an indispensable part of the world of spices and medicine. It gives a Mediterranean dish a wonderfully fragrant and tasty aromatic note. Meat, fish and vegetables can be refined with rosemary. Since its long history, rosemary has also been known in German as "incense herb". Its origins are the dry maquis in southern Europe. Its home countries are primarily the Iberian Peninsula as well as Greece, Croatia and Italy. Although rosemary can also be grown in Germany, it is not really widespread. The 80 to 100 centimetre tall shrub loves sunny and warm places, which means that in Germany it has to be cultivated in a pot.

The effects of rosemary have been known since ancient times!

Experts assume that the name “rosemary” is made up of the Latin word “ros” for “dew” and “marinus” (belonging to the sea). Rosemary, or “the dew of the sea”, could also have got its name from the Greek “rhops myrinos”. In German, this means something like “fragrant shrub”. Where it ultimately comes from is not very important. What is certain, however, is that the “fragrant bouquet” has been used by humans for thousands of years. In ancient Greece, rosemary was consecrated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite. The so-called “bridal herb” then moved into medieval monasteries. The Benedictine monks then brought this wonderful spice and medicinal herb over the Alps to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. One of the most famous doctors of modern times is Paracelsus. He was one of the first to use and recommend rosemary for medicinal purposes. Above all for rheumatism and gout.
